Condos in Canary District

Canary District Condos For Sale

Settled on the east end of the downtown Toronto hub, the Canary District, otherwise known as Corktown, is a thriving mixed-use, residential and commercial space, that has evolved through a number of changes throughout history. The Canary District is dubbed so due to the neighbourhood being home historically to the iconic restaurant, The Canary. While the restaurant, which had a neon canary perched on top of its sign, was renowned in its era, the restaurant has since been replaced by new housing structures. Nonetheless, the history of the neighbourhood continues to live on.

The Canary District got its start when the location was host to the 2015 Pan/Parapn Am Games Athletes Village. Spanning 35 acres, the master-planned district, which is located in the West Don Lands near the Don Valley Parkway, was home to athletes’ residence, an 82,000 square feet recreational center, officially the Cooper Koo Family YMCA, George Brown College’s first student residence, a vibrant social area known as Front Street Promenade, residentials, and other parks and walking spaces. The area is connected to extensive trails through the 18-acre long Corktown Common park and connects residents to the nearby Distillery District as well as Downtown Toronto and Leslieville.

As this district is located outside of the busy city hub, and in Toronto’s quieter east end, it comes with a lot of surprises. The Canary District is the perfect place for the busy urban dweller. You can have everything that you need at your fingertips. From accessible work to shops, dining, and commercial establishments, the Canary District can offer residents a lot of possibilities and opportunities.

Canary District Condos Amenities

While the public spaces included in the village center like Front Street are among the plentiful amenities located here, residents of the Canary District also have access to convenient streetcars; the TTC 514 streetcar on Cherry Street connects to King Street so residents can easily get into the city, travelling to Union Station, the Financial District, and the Toronto Eaton Centre in a matter of 10 minutes. Biking is very accessible here as well, and the district comes with the Toronto Bike Share rental options throughout the main intersections. Given its proximity to major highways like the Gardiner Expressway and the Don Valley Parkway (DVP), this of course means that residents have quick access to get out of the city, as well as driving against traffic going into the city during rush hour times.

With world attractions at your front step, living in The Canary District is easy living and a breeze. Lush green public space and community centers make living in this area all the merrier. Replenish your mind, body, and soul while staying close to the heart of Downtown. Residents of The Canary District have access to the waterfront, which makes this spot even more enjoyable. Head south to the Martin Goodman Trail to enjoy the Sugar Beach access or head out to Cherry Beach and the nearby Beaches.

The Canary District has won numerous awards, such as 2013 The National Awards Community of the Year – Urban, 2014 BILD Awards Community of the year, and the 2012 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence.

Explore the Active Lifestyle

One of the Canary District’s best-kept secrets is that even as a thriving community populace, the village at Canary District, otherwise referred to at Corktown, is very well connected to active outdoor spaces. The residents of the Canary District can enjoy these amenities right in their own community, as well as stay connected to plush green spaces like the Don Valley Parkway. If you’re looking for an area that offers the best of both worlds, then the Canary District aka Corktown is it!

If you love to explore nature, walk around town, or bike, then the Canary District is perfect for you. Connecting to the DVP and to the Martin Goodman Trail, Sugar Beach, and Cherry Beach, residents in this district can access over 1,800 km of hiking trails! The Don Valley has groomed trails, which are perfect for hikers, walkers, bikers, and other snow-time activities.

The district is also home to an 18-acre park, so there is plenty of green space in an equally urban environment. At Corktown Common Park, residents and visitors can sprawl out on green spaces, enjoy playgrounds, a splash pad in the summer, family barbeques, picnic tables, and even a fireplace!

Getting around town by bike is also extremely accessible. The community clocks in at a 100 rating biker’s score! Whether you bike for your daily commute or want to get out regularly for weekend bike trips, the Canary District gives you access to these perks.

In addition to this connectivity and green space, the Canary District is extremely walk-friendly, with a walk score of 95. There is also a lot of transit in the area, with a transit score of 94.

The village boasts of a thriving community and social centres as well. Being a renovation of the Pan/Parapan Am Games in 2015, it is only fitting that the village was converted into the social Front Street Promenade walk and play area, as well as the 82,000 square foot. Cooper Koo Family YMCA. The YMCA has a leisure and lap pool, an indoor track, kids’ play structure, a cycle studio, fitness training and weight room, cardio machines, and even a green roof!
